About County Mayo
Beautiful Co Mayo on the West coast of Ireland offers many varied attractions. The main town, Castlebar, has some authentic Irish Pubs and great restaurants offering substantial and good quality food.

Westport is a popular tourist site and offers you the chance to dip your toes in the Atlantic Ocean. You can drive across the Michael Davitt Bridge to visit Achill Ireland. The cliffs of Croaghaun on the western end of the island are the highest sea cliffs in Europe although they are inaccessible by road. Near the westernmost point of Achill Island is Keem Bay which is popular with tourists and locals for surfing.

In the East of the county, close to the border with County Roscommon you will find the Catholic Shrine of Knock where it is said the Virgin Mary appeared to some children in 1879. The basilica church at Knock can accommodate 10,000 people and plays host to 500,000 visitors a year. Knock Airport nearby receives flights from across Europe.

There is also the ancient Balintubber Abbey, founded in 1216, and still in regular use. Pierce Brosnan was recently married here.
